Breakouts / Acne
No matter what type of acne an individual has, breakouts can be embarrassing, painful, and difficult to manage.
Let’s explore management techniques that can be used to treat acne and prevent future breakouts.
What Causes Breakouts?
Acne breakouts have a number of causes, but there are four main factors that contribute to the severity of a breakout.
- Excess sebum production in the skin
- Clogged pores or follicles
- Skin inflammation
The issues that cause or exacerbate the causes of a breakout may include hormonal changes, stress, medications, insufficient hygiene, using makeup or skincare products that irritate the skin, and diets rich in fat, sugar, and salt (though diet has not been proven to affect acne).
Preventing Acne Breakouts
There are a couple of steps you can take as part of your daily routine to prevent acne breakouts. In addition to cleansing your skin, avoiding stress, and getting exercise, try the following:
- Keep your hair out of your face, especially if you put haircare products in it
- Avoid touching your face throughout the day
- Use gentle or natural makeup products
- Moisturize your skin
- Stay out of the sun
- Acne Treatments
If using at-home treatment methods doesn’t reduce the appearance of acne or the frequency of breakouts, you might want to examine your medical options. Plenty of people find that making changes to their skincare routine doesn’t appear to stop acne from developing. In moderate to severe cases, visiting a medical professional is extremely beneficial.
