IPL stands for intense pulsed light. IPL photofacials stimulate skin with intense light to target dark and pigmented areas in the skin, “tricking” them to shed and rebuild while preserving the surrounding skin. Suitable for any area of the body, IPL photofacials are commonly applied to the face, neck and décolleté. Best of all, there’s little to no downtime, so you can return immediately to your daily activities following your treatment.

FAQs: IPL Photofacial in Tewksbury, MA at Solace Wellness Center & MedSpa
What happens during an IPL photofacial?
If you come to your appointment wearing makeup, you will first need to wash your face. We will then apply a clear gel to your treatment areas which is used to absorb the light from the IPL device. During your treatment, we will gently move the IPL hand-held applicator around your target areas, administering intense pulses of light exactly where you need it. Depending on your needs, we may pass over your skin several times to provide a thorough saturation of energy where you need it most.
Does IPL photofacial hurt?
IPL is a well-tolerated treatment that does not require any topical anesthetic. As the light hits your skin, it may feel like a rubber band is snapping against you. This brief stinging sensation lasts for only a second, as the light is targeting your skin. Immediately following your session, you may feel a slight sun-burned sensation, but many people experience only a slight flushing that resolves within the hour.
When will I see results from my photofacial?
You should start noticing improvements within a week following your IPL photofacial treatment. Your improvements will also depend on the type of skin concerns you are correcting. For example, redness and small veins fade gradually in the weeks following treatment. Dark spots like age spots and sunspots first darken before gradually taking on a coffee grounds-like texture and flaking off within a week or so following your session.
How many photofacials will I need?
Optimal results are seen with a series of photofacials. We can help determine the ideal regimen for you during your personal consultation.
Is there any downtime with photofacials?
Because IPL photofacials do not break the skin, there’s little to no downtime following your treatment. You can safely reapply your makeup, if desired, immediately following your session.
How long will the benefits of an IPL photofacial last?
The great thing about IPL photofacials is that they stimulate new collagen and elastin growth, which means they help generate vibrant new skin that looks healthier and younger. For your best results, we recommend undergoing routine IPL photofacials to maintain your results.
